2007 Aarggh! Comics Grant
Who are you people?
The DCC is a group of comic creators, writers, artists, editors, and fans based in the Washington DC region. We share ideas, swap stories, compare influences, and help each other out.
So, what’s the deal with the grant?
The DCC will help the winning creator (or team of creators) publish their comic. This will include assistance in storytelling, editing and laying out the book. DCC will cover the costs of printing 100 copies of the comic (digest-size, 20 black-and-white pages, with color covers).
DCC will also promote the publication through various venues, including the DCC Web site, zine fests, and comic expos and conventions, including the 2007 Small Press Expo (SPX) in Bethesda, MD.
A panel of three DCC members will judge the 2007 entries.
Who can apply?
Anyone age 18 and under and who lives in the Greater Washington DC Metropolitan area is eligible. If you turn 19 in 2007, that’s okay, just as long as you were 18 in 2007.
What do I need to do to apply?
Here’s your checklist:
Complete the Application form (click here to download).
Include COPIES of the following:
a written summary of your story;
sketches of characters and settings;
some thumbnail sketches of the comic; and
a brief description of the your goals for the project.
Basically, give us what you've got just DON’T send us your original artwork! The further along you are in the project when you send in your submission, the better we will be able to understand your idea. It also lets us know that you’re serious about the project.
Please send your completed proposal and copies of stories and any artwork (NO originals!) to:
2007 Aarggh! Comics Grant
4414 Pembrook Village Drive
Alexandria, VA 22309
I can't open the Application form. What's up with that?
The Application is a PDF format file. You need Adobe Reader to view and print PDFs. If you don't have it, you can download the program for free from Adobe.
When is the application package due?
The deadline for submissions is September 28, 2007.
The winner will be notified before October 8, 2007.
What can my comic be about?
There are no parameters regarding subject matter but we advise some discretion (after all, you want to sell these books, right?). The genre can be superhero, autobiographic, funny animals, science fiction, historical, etc.
What if I have other questions?
E-mail cspiers@gmail.com. Please write “Comics Grant” in the subject line.
