Meet My Sketchbook

Did you know that I have a Daily Sketchblog?

It's true. All those pictures are over there, but I thought I'd let YOU, my special friends, meet my sketchblog tools.

Here is my sketchbook, which I carry around with me almost everywhere:

It's got a nice leather cover that I've covered with stickers indicating the D.C.-based art groups I am a member of, a handy bookmark to help me keep my place, and an elastic strap to keep it all together, plus hold my pencil!

That's the pencil I use. My favorite used to be Koh-i-noor's Rapidomatic .5mm mechanical pencil but they actually stopped making them. I found a new mechanical pencil that I like even more, though! It's Pentel's GraphGear 1000. It's still a .5mm lead holder but it is made out of a pretty heavy metal, which balances really well when I work. It's also got a nice grip of rough metal and rubber bumps. Finally, when you click it, it actually retracts the lead and the piece that holds it so it's very protected and highly durable!

The actual pages are quite thick and very smooth so it takes pencil great. They're a bit yellow so when I blog, I scan the image and greyscale it. But the gentle yellow is actually really nice on my eyes. Not too harsh, you know?

I'd be curious to hear about some of your favorite tools of the trade.

Thanks for following along, gentle reader! See you at the Skagblotch!
