Ice Age

I'm working on my next project, a graphic novel called "Liquid Revolver," with a few guys in the group. I'm basically writing it, but I'm also drawing one of the stories. For some reason, I've had a tough time doing the first page; I've essentially drawn and inked the first page six times! At one point, I was going to try to illustrate the story with charcoal. I've since scratched that idea, but I thought y'all might like to see what the opening panel from that effort looked like.

Um. Matt?

That's awesome - why aren't you doing the whole thing like that?

I agree with JRod -- that's superlovely, Matt. I've always liked that technique -- light + dark ink/charcoal/pastels/whathaveyou on medium-toned paper.

sweet!

thanks, jason and monica. i think i needed a little pick-me-up! this has been very frsutrating for me. i too like the look, but there's a lot of hair and animal fur in the story, which is very difficult for me to do with charcoal. however, monica's given me an idea to try to improvise something. if you two are willing, can i e-mail you some illos later this week to get your thoughts? (if anyone else would like to see the pics and chime in, let me know. i've been struggling with this and would love some input for clarity.)

I like it as well. I'd be glad to help with input.

looks awesome. why not use conte crayon or even B&W colored pencils vice charcoal? I would think charcoal is too durn messy.
