The Critics

Here's a cartoon I did yesterday...the ups and downs of trying to get a completed book project out and accepted by a major publisher is that I am often hearing: nothing. Silence. So I fill in the blanks, thinking either:
a. They hate it , they're using it to make paper airplanes
b. It got soaked in the rain by the mailman, now it looks like a puddle of ink, why didn't I put the package in rain-proof packaging!?
c. the person I sent it to no longer works there. Got hit by a truck or fired right after I sent the query or email or sample.
d. It's so great that they're showing it to all their friends, seeing who "gets it."
e. none or all of the above.

Nothing at all? Not even a form letter or anything like that? Hmph. Odd, especially since the work is exceptional. (I could see not replying if it was bad stick-figure cartoons or something.)

Are you coming to the meeting Sunday? (We miss you!) Maybe we can punt around ideas. I'd recommend trying to go to book shows and comic book cons and network. Face-to-face contact is sooo important. And you're more likely to gauge their reaction to your book and maybe even get a real critique.

Matt, Jacob is responsible when I don't show up. He's supposed to make me come to the meetings.

I've had mostly no response, but also a form rejection...I am sending some more stuff out on Friday. I need to "spray and pray" as they say!

I do think I'm going to go to MOCCA June 23 - 24, 2007, but I'm not really sure that I'll be able to swing it because we'll just be getting back two days before from a vacation (ching, ching)...

Anyway, it's my intention to come on Sunday. I miss you and the group and feel out of touch. I'd love to hear your thoughts. I agree with everything you're saying...

Hmmmm, I thought we were keeping it a secret that I had locked you up in my basement until you'd pencilled those Dremo 4 pages? Keep your chin up. I know that you're book will explode once a sample falls into the right editors hands.
