Comic-Based Movies Poll
Summer is here and the blockbuster movies are rolling out. Not surprisingly, there are a few comics-based ones. That got me thinking--What are your five all-time best and worst movies based on comics? For me:
Best:
Ghost World
Road to Perdition
Spiderman 2
Batman
Mars Attacks! (Well, that's a trading-card based movie really, but it was done by Wally Wood in a sequential format, so it counts.)
Worst:
Spawn
Hulk
Catwoman
Daredevil
Blade

League of Extroidanary Gentlemen

Faust
Captain America (What bet did Ned Beatty and Ronnie Cox lose to appear in this turkey?)
Superman 3

Best:
Batman Begins
American Splendor
Ghost World
X-Men 2
Spider-Man 1 and 2
(gulp) The Hulk
Superman 1 and 2
Blade 2
Road to Perdition
Worst:
The first punisher
That first Fantastic Four one
Captain America
I haven't seen Elektra, Catwoman, LOEG or Batman & Robin.
Also, I wouldn't consider History of Violence to be one of the best. That movie bugged me by trying to be too smart but coming off as incredibly on-the-nose.

I saw it when it first came out -- and not since -- but I'm gonna toss out The Crow as a movie that I remember really capturing the feel of action comics in general, translating the pacing, spectacle and (melo)drama onto the big screen. Never read the comic.
Ghost World did an even better job at adapting the feel, and was a pretty terrific movie all around.
Not sure if I can put a reliable best/worst together as my usual criteria for a judging a comic movie is "just don't screw it up too badly." LoEg is, however, pretty much without any redeeming qualties.

Best:
Sin City
Ghost World
Mystery Men
Tank Girl
Hellboy
Spiderman
Batman Begins
Superman I & II
Worst:
Man-Thing
Batman & Robin
Superman III & IV
Catwoman
LOEG
Daredevil (though mostly cause of the Affleck's cross-eyed performance)
On a side note, Dale I thought I was the only one to have seen the travesty that was Faust. I talked to Tim Vigil at the Philly Wizard Con last year and he talked about that movie. "It is what it is. I knew I wasn't going to be happy with it once the director showed me some character photos and Clair had red hair... I was like WTF??"
Vigil is a very humble man. I wanna buy that man a beer every time I see him.

Best:
HOWARD THE DUCK ( This am the bestest movie EVER! This is standard of excellence all movies aspire to. This am the Citizen Kane of comics movies.)
RETURN OF THE SWAMP THING ( Alan Moore am worstest writer in comics but this movie brilliantly improved on his concepts in the comic. )
CATWOMAN (Halle Berry is the bestest Catwoman ever! Me want her to do Batgirl movie next.
CONSTANTINE ( Keanu Reeves as Constantine am brilliant casting. Americanizing character am improvement. Me waiting for sequel!)
Worst:
BATMAN BEGINS (What.. no Adam West?)
SIN CITY (This just like reading comic. I watch movie instead. Reading give me headache.)
GHOST WORLD ( This no have ghosts! Me am confused. Just two girls talking. Talk, talk, talk! That too much talking. Thora Birch cute though.)
SUPERMAN 1 & 2 (No Bizarro? Not even Mxyzptlk? Bah!)
Bizarro at 6/16/2006 9:21 PM
Geez, how could I have forgotten LoEG! I tried to watch it three times and fell asleep each time!
Being a swamp lover, I gotta check out Return of Swamp Thing and Man-Thing. The original Swamp Thing movie was good for its time, but it wasn't cutting edge.
Bizzaro, what, no '60s Batman movie?!

Before I saw Batman & Robin in the theater I met up with a friend and had a few beers. He declined to see the movie with me so I saw it by myself. I fell asleep about half way into the movie and man was I pissed when I woke up and the movie was STILL playing! I suppose I could have walked out but the masochist in me had to see it to the bitter end. That and I'm a hardcore Batman fan. Thank god they FINALLY got the character right. (Well besides the animated series)
I never saw the Roger Corman Fantastic Four. but you knew that this movie was bad because it was trailered on several Corman produced movies and STILL WASN'T released. If the trailer featured some of the best scenes of the movie, than that movie was a true celluloid abortion.
How could I have forgotten Howard the Duck? The measure of ALL bad movies.
Bizarro, If Superman Returns doesn't have Bizarro or Mxyzptlk in it then check out AOL's In2TV site. They have some of the Superboy tv episodes from 1990 including a 2 part episode called the Bride of Bizarro.
