The Shiznit

A few of us have briefly talked about doing a comic that would be distributed for free in the D.C. area. I even brought to one of our meetings a copy of a Belgian comic that’s given away free at stores, bars, etc. However, we kinda iced the idea, especially since a number of us found a local outlet for our cartoons through the Washington Spark. But, I just came across a neat little comic from Ireland that could provide the model that we’re looking for. It’s a 24-page, color minicomic called Shiznit, published by Bob Byrne. Bob says he distributes the comics mostly at bars and it seems folks have really taken to them. They’re alternative comics, a bit political, a bit racy, but very, very funny. (I’ve got five extra copies that I’ll give to the first five people who reply on the blog that they want one.) Of course, to carryout something like this, we’ll likely need advertisers. Anyway, let’s mull this over and talk about it at the next meeting (though I don’t think I’ll be making the December meeting—Adam’s birthday weekend).

In the mean time, check out Bob’s Web page and try not to wet your pants.

This sounds like a good idea.

Sure, why not. I've had only two takers anyway. Are you in D.C.? If not, send me your mailing address. My e-mail is m@waspcomics.com
