ah, Adam West...

Ran across this on another blog today:

Those tights really accentuate his hip swivel as he dodges the extras. Also: the name on the side of the building reads "Moby Dick's Coffee Shop." What's up with that? Was it a regular hang-out on the series? A sly reference to Robin? A proto-Starbucks? Discuss.

Well...

That's from the Batman movie, actually, which is the greatest 90 minutes of cinema of all time.

In this scene he was running around the dock with a bomb, looking for somewhere to get rid of it, but he keeps running into people he needs to protect and can't get rid of the bomb (some nuns, some ducks, a couple making out).

Batman then utters the greatest line in movie history: "Some days you just can't get rid of a bomb."

Comedy. Genius.

It looks like me when I'm carrying one of Adam's soiled diapers! (The only scene better in the movie is Batman's fight with the shark. How high was everyone?)

It still cracks me up that Caesar Romero refused to shave his mustache for the role of the Joker. The stache was simply so much part of his sexy image that he couldn't forgo it. Instead, he respectively caked shitty, white makeup over it.

Ahhhh....The Bat Shark Repellant.

wait, is it in this movie where the bad guys shellac Batman + Robin and turn them into surfboards?

monica at 10/19/2005 5:20 PM

And to think I actually worshiped that guy as a kid! That loop makes my freakin' day. Thank you!

Ok. Well. If you were trying to be sarcastic about the awfulness of the Batman movie I have quite the treat for you.

Batman and Robin weren't turned into surfboards in the movie.

BUT - The Joker did turn them into surfboards in the TV show. So either you picked something you believed to be outlandish and thereby proved the Batman show/movie from the 60s was the campiest, greatest thing of all time or you actually remember seeing that somewhere.

I hope it's the former because that ROCKS.

Who was your favorite villian on the show? I dug the Riddler (Frank Gershin, not Gomez Adams).

Dembicki at 10/20/2005 6:47 PM

Huge crush on Julie Newmar Catwoman as a kid. I love Gorshin's Riddler more now, as an adult and for some crazy reason King Tut episodes were always a treat for me in my youth - I had an Egypt thing.

Well - I obviously rented Batman: The Movie.

"We shall spring them from The Joker's Jack-In-The-Box, through that window, out over the sea, and into the waiting arms of The Penguin's Exploding Octopus! The trigger: one of my riddles, of course, and the bait: Catwoman!"

So good. So. Damn. Good.

Jason at 10/20/2005 9:23 PM

well JRod, I guess it would have to be both: I truly believe that the TV version is the campiest thing ever, AND yes, I did watch the episode where the Dynamic Duo were turned into surfboards.

I was conflating the Bat-shark-repellent with the surfin'. Damn. or wait! Did they breat out the shark-repellent in that episode? 'cause then I'd only be slightly less nuts.

Oh, and I didn't choose the clip. More like I saw it on my almost-brother-in-law's blog + stole it.

Nuff said!

Batman: [reading a riddle] What has yellow skin and writes?
Robin: A ball-point bananna!
Batman: [reads the second riddle] What people are always in a hurry?
Robin: Rushing people... Russians!
Batman: So this means...
Robin: Someone Russian is going to slip on a banana and break their neck!
Batman: Precisely, Robin!
