Panel of the Week #1
OK, I met these guys a few years ago who put out books under the name "Fightin Fun Comics". I am not much for funny comics, but these guys where funny as hell. Anyway, after spending 3 days beside them at the Pittsburg comic con, we exchanged numbers, and they asked me to draw a 6 page short story titled "The Saturnian Wars". It fit into the mythos of one of the reappearing characters, Biblica. See, the concept behind Biblica was that she was a hot chick, a conservative fundamentalist, who believed God had bestowed upon her super powers that caused her enemies to become mind boggled. In reality, her costume was just a little too small, and her nipples poked out.
Believe me, it was much funnier than I can relate at this date.
Anyway, I pencilled the 6 page story, but unfortunately nothing really came of it. A couple of years passed, and a few months ago my sister asked me for some original art that she could get her Fiance to frame. I knew that she liked the Fightin Fun pages that I had showed her, so I gave her the first page, one of my attempts at a massive splash page... yeah, well, this was two years ago. I did the best I could. Just last week, Audrey (my sister) comes to me and asks me if I'd ink it. The wood that her fiance had chosen when making the frame is beautifully laced with dark lines, and she thought that if the work was more "finished" it would look better in there. At first I was dreading it. I mean, I just really got settled on working on the next issue of Alberic, and now I got to break from it to do this project. Once I got started, I had a blast. Knocked it out in about 6 hours. I decided not to correct any of the layout and linework, capturing my style and skill level of two years ago... I think it came out pretty good... what do you think?
