Drawn

Drawn Posted by Hello

So the folks over at Drawn, a comics and illustration blog, wrote about me.Me.ME on Friday, March 11, 2005. I thought I'd send you all over there for a bit of a romp through a deep talent pool.

We'll start with Patricia Storms, who singled me out and wrote the blush-worthy praise about my cartooning style and interests. Go over to her site and take a look. What you'll fall in love with is her brush style and the individual beings that come from her careful lines. She has that rare ability to be a masterful draftsman and go beyond the gag with stories and one-shots that make you think. Please make sure you look at Tart on her portfolio site. There's a preview of a book that'll be seeing print soon...

She has another blog called Booklust---with daily musings on graphic novels, new fiction, and all subjects related to books, book-making, drawing, and so on. What I love about reading her posts is that she makes her point and gets out---there's not any of that extraneous yammering on that can be tedious on many blogs. She's also the person who introduced me to the work of Posy Simmonds (Gemma Bovery). I've been raving about this book to anyone who will listen. If you aren't familiar already with Patricia's published illustration and writing, then get in there and wade around. The company she keeps on Drawn is pretty impressive.

Here are some of the other contributors:

John Martz is one of those illustrators of the Bob Staake mold. He can draw and has a distinct style and then he's one of those dagdarn types who actually uses a computer with skill and intelligent decisions. I'm trying to say he knows what he's doing.

Matt Forsythe has a preview of his comic Ojingogo on his sketchblog. It's got the feel of Sam Hiti or Ted McKeever, with little dialogue but a lot of lines to lose yourself in.

Jared Chapman: an illustrator whose traditional methods make you want to touch the screen---there's a loving care to his renderings that I enjoyed when I went through his portfolio. If you like Renee French, you'll like him for the same reasons. So go over to Drawn and check them out.

They're doing the same thing D.C. Conspiracy is, so if you like us...you'll like them.
